During the war in Bosnia, the people of Zagreb built a wall surrounding UN headquarters to expose and denounce the international community’s apathy. Brick by brick, citizens added to the wall in memory of each family-member or friend killed or reported missing at war, decorating the memorial with photos, flowers, and candles.
Reassembled in the Gallery, this wall served as a reminder to the French public that a large-scale human tragedy was taking place not so far away. Milomir Kovacevic’s photographs of war-torn Sarajevo and its inhabitants added to this poignant testimony.
